Flight Path
Current Coordinates
My experience with multimedia and interactive learning comes primarily from my roles as a student and a tutor. Through tutoring young children, I worked with pre-designed curriculum that included videos, worksheets, and structured learning materials. While I did not design instructional resources from scratch, I regularly adapted existing materials to meet individual learnersā needs by modifying visual aids, creating examples, and using hands-on strategies. These experiences helped me recognize how visual and interactive approaches can make abstract or challenging concepts more accessible. However, my role focused on implementation rather than design. I was adjusting materials rather than making intentional decisions about how learning experiences were structured. In terms of technical skills, I consider myself a beginner in multimedia creation. I am comfortable using tools such as Google Docs and Google Slides in an academic context, but I have little experience creating websites or interactive media. Overall, I understand the importance of effective multimedia learning but currently lack the skills to design it independently.
Mapping the Route
My primary goal in this course is to develop foundational design skills that allow me to move from adapting learning materials to intentionally creating them. This includes learning to apply design thinking principles to educational contexts, particularly when planning learning experiences with a clear audience, purpose, and structure. Developing this mindset will help me make more deliberate decisions about how information is presented rather than relying on intuition or existing templates. Another key goal is to strengthen my ability to communicate ideas visually. While I am confident explaining concepts verbally or in writing, I want to learn how to represent ideas through visuals and structured multimedia formats. As a student, I have experienced how narrative structure and visual organization can support understanding, and I want to be able to create similar learning experiences for others. I am interested in learning how to use generative AI tools ethically and intentionally. I aim to use AI as a support for brainstorming and refining ideas rather than replacing my own thinking, supporting my goal of developing practical and adaptable design skills.
Anticipating Turbulence
One challenge I anticipate is working with unfamiliar technical tools, particularly those related to multimedia creation. I also expect creative, open-ended assignments to feel challenging due to uncertainty around expectations. To navigate these challenges, I plan to engage in peer discussions, use course examples as reference points, and seek feedback early in the design process. I am also aware that uncertainty can lead to procrastination, so I plan to start assignments early and focus on producing rough drafts rather than polished outcomes. By breaking tasks into smaller steps and treating early work as experimentation, I aim to make steady progress throughout the course.Ā
